Start with your written estimate

Enter the labor hours quoted for the job, two hourly rates you want to test, and the non-labor subtotal. The scenarios are illustrative arithmetic inputs, not typical or recommended shop rates. If you only have one rate, enter it in both fields.

The lower result is hours × lower rate + non-labor charges. The higher result uses the higher rate instead. For the initial illustrative inputs, 8 × $100 + $2,400 = $3,200 and 8 × $150 + $2,400 = $3,600. Neither amount includes tax unless you have already included it in the fixed subtotal. Do not add a charge twice.

The worksheet assumes both scenarios buy the same job. It cannot decide whether a teardown, replacement assembly, programming, or additional test is needed. It also cannot determine the tax treatment in your location. Ask the shop to identify exclusions and credits before treating a result as your budget. If you enter a lower rate greater than the higher rate, correct the inputs; the labels describe the scenarios, not a guarantee of ordering.
